LONNIE FERGUSON
Lonnie Ferguson, age 55 of Lafayette, TN died Monday, August 4, 2008 at the Trousdale Medical Center in Hartsville. He was a native of Tullahoma and the son of the late Raymond and Pauline Ferguson. He was a Deputy Sheriff for the Macon County Sheriff’s Department and had worked for the Winchester Police Department, the Cannon County Sheriff’s Department and several other law enforcement agencies. He is survived by his wife Ronda Ferguson; sons Chris (Robin) Ferguson, Broadview, Doug Gray, Tullahoma, Johnny (Kelly) Hodges, Tifton, GA and a daughter Hollie (Chris) Havner, Tullahoma; mother of his children Clara Ferguson, Winchester; step children Shane (Scottie) Sliger, Garth Middaugh all of Lafayette and Coffee Middaugh, Dallas, TX; grandchildren Bubba and Amber Ferguson, Noah and Amelia Gray, Gabriall Havner, Jack Hodges, Jeffrey Sliger, Dani Tirjan; one great grandson Tallon Whittemore; brother Ronnie (Louise) Ferguson, Tullahoma and several nieces nephews and other loving family. Visitation was held from 4:00 until 8:00pm Tuesday night and funeral services held at 4:00pm Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at the Tullahoma Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Maplewood Cemetery. Graveside services for James Robert Wesley “Wes” Reynolds, age 55 of Tullahoma were conducted at 11am, Wednesday, August 6 a the Concord Cemetery with Bill Rhoton and Kevin Rhoton officiating. Mr. Reynolds passed away Saturday at the Summit Medical Center in Hermitage, TN. Mr. Reynolds was born in Pulaski, Tennessee the son of the late Henry C. Reynolds and Barbara Jean Lamay Reynolds. He was a mechanic and was a Vietnam Veteran. In addition to his parents, Mr. Reynolds was also preceded in death by 5 brothers and sisters, Henry C. Reynolds, Jr., Kenneth Reynolds, Linda Sanford, Billy Wayne Reynolds and Bessie Wise. His survivors are: 2 daughters – Jamie (Marvin) Ward of Smyrna, TN, Sheena (Joshua) Martin of Tullahoma; 2 sons – Jerry Clements of Arkansas, Bobby Reynolds of Texas; 1 brother – Allen Reynolds of Manchester, 1sister Pat (Bill) Rhoton of Manchester, 19 grandchildren. MARTHA “MISSY” WALKER CORDELL
Funeral services for Martha “Missy” Walker Cordell, age 57 of Antioch, were conducted Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at 10AM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Pastor Greg Nash officiating. Burial followed in Haithcock Cemetery. Visitation was held with the family on Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 8:00PM at the funeral home. Ms. Cordell passed away Monday, August 4 at Skyline Madison Campus in Madison. Martha was born December 22, 1950 in Chattanooga, TN to the late Guy W. and Martha Jean Standifer Walker, Sr. In earlier years, Martha worked as the Director of HCA as an Accredited Record Tech. She was a member of the Two Rivers Baptist Church in Nashville. Her survivors include one daughter, Heather (Robert) Arthur of Nashville; two brothers, Dr. Guy Walker, Jr. or Alabama, Hugh Walker of Manchester; one sister, Melody (Jerry) Duncan of Manchester; niece, Rachel Reumann of Florida, and two grandsons. IRA “JACK” JONES
Funeral services for Mr. Ira “Jack” Jones, age 86 or Manchester were conducted at 4PM, Friday, August 8, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Manchester with Rev. Neal Glass officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Mr. Jones lay in state at the church from 3:00pm, Friday until service time. Visitation with the Jones family was held Thursday, August 7, from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Coffee County Funeral Chapel. Mr. Jones passed away Tuesday, August 5 at Harton Hospital in Tullahoma. Mr. Jones was born in Bedford County, Tennessee the son of the late John David Jones and Emma Jane Isom Jones. He was a graduate of Central High School in Manchester and worked at Traders National Bank in Tullahoma from l965 until 1979 where he became the Executive Vice President. In 1979, Mr. Jones began his career with the First National Bank of Manchester where he served as the Chairman of the Board until his death. Mr. Jones was a US Army Veteran of World War II and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Manchester and a member of the the Johnson Hall Sunday School Class. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Stella Huffman and Mildred Scott, and by a brother, Thurman Jones. Mr. Jones is survived by: His wife of 61 years, Mrs. Dalah Ruth Lewis Jones of Manchester, 2 sons – Donald Lewis “Don” Jones and his wife Donna of Chattanooga, Dale Jackson Jones and his wife Sherry of Memphis, 2 brothers – Milton D. Jones of Manchester, Gerald I. Jones of Chattanooga, 4 grandchildren – Melanie Burton, Natalie Jones, Julie Arnold and Rebecca Jones, 2 great grandchildren – Madison Burton and Jackson Burton. ORA MAE (COUSER) VANZANT
Ora Mae (Couser) Vanzant, age 94, of Tullahoma, died Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at Harton Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in the Harmony Community of Franklin County to the late Rush and Knoxie Couser. She worked for over 25 years at Genesco. She was a loving mother, devoted wife, and lived her life for the Lord in all that she did. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey “Buddy” Vanzant on June 12, 2008; four brothers, Alton, R.M., Marvin and Tom Couser, and two sisters, Lura Couser Clark and Ovena Couser Limbaugh. Mrs. Vanzant is survived by her son, Mickey Vanzant of Murfreesboro and a brother, Norman (Viola) Couser of Nolensville, TN. Visitation was held at Wesley Heights Methodist Church on Saturday, August 9, 2008 from 9am until the time of the service at 10am with Reverend Jim Fields officiating. ANNA MAY RIGNEY
Anna May Rigney, 99, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 6, 2008. Mrs. Rigney was a lifelong resident of Manchester and spent the last 5 years as a resident at the United Regional Medical Center nursing Home. Mrs. Rigney was born may 25, 1909 in McMinn County to the late Joe and Lillie Byrum. Mrs. Rigney was a devoted wife of 63 years to the late Kaiser William (K.W.) Rigney. Mrs. Rigney (Granny) was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and attending her church at Westwood Baptist. Mrs. Rigney was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 daughter Martha Ann, 1 granddaughter Donna Faye, 3 sisters and 4 brothers. Mrs. Rigney is survived by four sons. Joe and wife Jean of Woodbury, homer and wife Irene, Roy, Sam and wife Victoria, all of Manchester. One daughter, Lillie Givens and husband Ron of Tullahoma. Eight grandchildren, Laura Davis of Ohio, Jeff Rigney, Angela keele, both of Manchester; Greg Rigney of Tullahoma, Todd Rigney of Shelbville, Tina Smith of Des Arc, Arkansas, Micheal harris and Ryan Rigney of Manchester. Twelve great-grandchildren; Adam Keele, Jason Rigney, Stephanie Cochran, Leslie Davis, Katie Rigney, Trevor Rigney, Amber Rigney, Ashley Harris, Rachel Rigney, Jessica Hyde, Krystal Hyde and Alyssa Rigney and one great-great-grandchild due in January 2009 and a host of extended family and friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, August 9 at 1pm at the Manchester Funeral Home with Bro. Earl Cairns and Bro. Roy Carter officiating. Funeral services for Earl Wayne Carter, age 72, were conducted Sunday, August 10, 2008 at 2:00pm from the Chapel of Manchester Funeral Home. Entombment followed at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Mr. Carter passed away Friday, August 8, 2008 at Alive Hospice in Nashville. He was born August 23, 2008 the son of the late Hurbert Carter and Vergie Tuttle Carter. In earlier years, he was employed with Batesville Casket Company. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Claudette, who passed away October 19, 2005; a step-son, Steven Labron Smallen and brothers and sisters, Annabell, Margaret, Joe and Ruby. Survivors include a step-daughter and husband, Lisa Dawn Sisco and Michael Gray Sisco of Murfreesboro and three step-grandchildren, Erica Marie Bogard, Paul Lance Bogard, Hayden Michael Sisco, and numerous nieces and nephews. REED, Roy Donnie “Speedy”, age 69, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2008 at his home in Manchester, Tennessee. He was a Truck Driver with the Batesville Casket Company for over 13 years and had owned a Cabinet Shop in Manchester, TN and Twilight Campers in Elkhart, Indiana. He was born on December 9, 1938 in Singleton, Tennessee to his parents, the late Enos F. Reed and Julia A. Coats Reed. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Alice Medford Reed and brothers, Herbert Reed and James Reed. He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. He is survived by his son, Donald “Bud” Reed (Melissa) of Manchester, TN; daughter, Valerie Reed Guenther (Ryan) of Athens, Alabama; sisters, Neil Smith of Bloomington, Indiana and Betty Peek of Indiana; brothers, Bobby Reed (Joann) of Elkhart, Indiana, Bill Reed (Penny), Howard Reed (Peggy) and Ross Reed (Dianne) all of Manchester, TN; seven grandchildren, Brett Atkins, Brittny Atkins, Chelsea Reed, Michael Reed, Allison Reed, Katie Reed and Alayah Guenther; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. NORMA E. HARRIS
HARRIS, Norma E., age 84, of Manchester, Tennessee passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2008. She was born on September 22, 1923 in Martland, Nebraska to her parents, the late Arthur and Bessie Ingels Ekwall. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Arlene Meyer; brothers, Robert and Eldon Ekwall. Norma was raised on a farm in Martland, Nebraska and taught in a one-room schoolhouse before graduating from York College in Nebraska. She joined her husband, who was a medical doctor, and worked as missionairies in Sierra Leone, Africa from 1958-1965 where she assisted in the field of education. From 1966-1984, she and her husband lived in Cambridge, Nebraska. Her family was always her priority, but she also took time for church activities, Gideons, Christian Women’s Club, china painting and leading Bible studies. Since moving to Manchester in 1984, she was a an active member of Trinity Baptist Church. Norma’s generous and kind spirit will be missed by family and friends around the world. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, George A. Harris, M.D., four children, Sandra (Bill) Leeder of Papillion, NE, Janet K. (Mickey) Layne of Manchester, TN, L. Andrew (Jane) Harris of Ft. Collins, CO, and Kurt (Nancy) Harris of Manchester, TN;
nineteen grandchildren, Ben, Brandon, Collin, Marla and Jonathan Leeder; Heidi (Darrick) Holmes; Heather, Holly and Hilary Florence; Joshua and Calista Harris; Luke and Jill Jackson; Anna, Katie and Shelley Harris; and Michael, Caleb and Lucas Layne; seven great-grandchildren, Katie, Ben, Joshua, Emily and Lilly Holmes; Andrew and Lacy Nixon. MAUREEN P. MEHNERT
MEHNERT, Maureen P., age 69, of Manchester, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2008 at the Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. She was a retired secretary, housewife and served as a volunteer at the Harton Regional Medical Center for over 10 years. She was born on October 10, 1938 in Brooklyn, New York to her parents, the late Thomas Sullivan and Dorothy Mullins Sullivan. She was also preceded in death by sister, Nancy Sullivan and brother, James Sullivan. She will be fondly remembered as “A Loving Wife and Mother - A Good Woman”. She is survived by her loving husband Jerry Mehnert of Manchester, TN; four children, Laura Cushing (Michael) of Middletown, Delaware, Edward Mehnert (Brenda) of Champagne, Illinois, Robert Mehnert (Lori) of Carrollton, Texas and Susan Mehnert Kay (Rick) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; five brothers, Thomas Sullivan (Barbara) and Richard Sullivan (Eileen) all of Florida, William Sullivan (Kathy), John Sullivan (Judy) and Gerald Sullivan (Nancy) all of Long Island, New York, two sisters, Dorothy Skwarek (Gary) of Florida and Catherine Tallarine (Ed) of Long Island, New York; eleven grandchildren;and a host of other relatives and friends.
